The Florida Strawberry Festival is putting out a warning about concert tickets being offered online.
Tickets for the 2018 concert season can already be purchased, even though the tickets aren’t available for sale until Dec. 6.
“They are guaranteeing seats and sections they don’t even have tickets for yet,” said Florida Strawberry Festival President Paul Davis.
WFLA-TV found tickets on line for Willy Nelson being sold at $652 per seat. Tickets for the group Alabama are being offered at $406 per seat.
“The problem is, I don’t mind the people making the money. The thing that troubles me is our clients were paying outrageous money for a show when they are still on sale here. None of our tickets are on sale for over $55,” said Davis.
Some of the tickets being sold may not even work when a customer goes to the gate on concert night.
“There is also an element out there that will send fraudulent tickets and when they show up, we scan them and they’ve already been scanned or there’s not even our bar code,” said Davis.
Some ticket sellers are even paying to have their websites come up in search engines before the legitimate Strawberry Festival website.
“Last year we saw domains come up, Florida Strawberry Festival ticket office, which was not us, and people thought they were buying from us and their prices were five times what ours were and then people were buying them and complaining to us, ‘I can’t believe you’ve gone that crazy with your prices,'” said Davis.
Davis points out they have not raised concert ticket prices in 20 years and most concert seats can be purchased for $20 or $30 per seat, with the most expensive seats being sold at $55 through the Strawberry Festival web site.
