A Tampa Bay area family is begging for information after 18-year-old Takiya Fullwood was murdered early last Sunday outside a Ybor Heights house party.
8 On Your Side spoke exclusively to the victim’s family Tuesday.
Fullwood’s uncle, Darrick Fullwood, knew the phone call in the middle of the night over the weekend could mean nothing good.
“Would have never thought in a hundred years that something like that could happen to Takiya,” Fullwood said.
Takiya Fullwood grew up in Riverview and graduated from East Bay High. Her uncle describes her as a natural leader, an overachiever, who dreamed of becoming a dentist one day.
The Florida Atlantic student was set to graduate early from college this spring. She came into town this weekend to visit family and friends.
“She was going to be a very successful young lady,” Fullwood said. “Even in this time of bereavement, she would not want everyone to be sad. She would want everyone to be happy and to celebrate that God had called her home.”
Fullwood can’t say much about the night of crime, because he says detectives are still trying to sort out who was there and what happened. However, he’s confident that enough people witnessed the shooting to know who shot his niece.
He prays someone will speak up.
“We will forgive you,” Fullwood explained. “We will forgive you. We pray that God somehow touches that person’s heart.”
Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering $3,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in Takiya Fullwood’s death.
