Dog severely burned in Lutz arson fighting for her life

Hillsborough County

A dog receiving prayers on social media after suffering severe burns in an arson last month is fighting for her life in Tampa.

Denali, who is receiving attention online through the hashtag #TeamDenali, is still recovering at Blue Pearl Animal Hospital in Tampa. She suffered what doctors believe to be chemical burns in a deliberate house fire set last month in Lutz, according to investigators.

Doctors at Blue Pearl say Denali has experienced both “good days and bad days” as she fights to survive. Managing her pain levels, which are described as extreme, and treating her wounds are the hospital’s top priority, doctors say.

Suncoast Animal League has used #TeamDenali on their Facebook page to update the public on Denali’s condition.

Dr. Sylvia Lee at Blue Pearl says most dogs would have succumbed to such horrific injuries, but Denali is a “survivor.”

“I don’t think we focus on the circumstances as to why Denali is here,” said Lee. “We just want to treat Denali, because she’s a fighter.”

Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office say Denali was injured when Brandi Corrigan, 40, allegedly set home to her Lutz home on Aug. 25. Denali’s chemical burns might be a result of Corrigan allegedly dumping paint all over her home in an effort to accelerate the fire.

Corrigan is charged with arson, along with drug possession.
