Standoff with armed man in Tampa ends peacefully, police say

Hillsborough County

TAMPA (WFLA) – Tampa police have taken a man into custody after a 90 min standoff at a Tampa home.

Tampa police say at around 7 p.m. Thursday evening officers responded to a report of “shots heard” in the 1400 block of West Waters Avenue where officers found a business struck by at least one bullet.

Officers working the investigation were led to 8408 N. Orleans Ave. where officers attempted to get in contact with Terry Butts, 71.

Police say Butts raised a gun at officers, who immediately took cover. Butts was taken into custody without incident and no officers were injured.

Butts was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and additional charges could be forthcoming.

Police are unsure as to why Butts fired shots at the business.
