TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – ZooTampa announced their staff is mourning the death of an African painted dog on Tuesday.
According to the zoo, “Layla” had reached her life expectancy and began to suffer from severe health issues.
Layla arrived at ZooTampa in 2018. Last fall, she gave birth to seven pups, the first ever born at the zoo.
“We loved caring for Layla at the Zoo and are deeply saddened but appreciative of her contributions to African painted dogs globally,” the zoo said in a statement.
