TAMPA (WFLA) – A young child was hit by a stray bullet Thursday night after a fight broke out in Tampa, police say.
According to the Tampa Police Department, the incident happened in the Grant Park area at 30th Avenue and 54th Street North. Officers say a fight broke out between two groups and, around 8 p.m., the groups exchanged gunfire.
A 9-year-old nearby was hit by a stray round when the shots were fired, according to police. The child was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police said Thursday night there was no information on the child’s condition but had said in a news release the 9-year-old was conscious and breathing when officers responded.
The shooting remains under investigation. Police have not said if any arrests have been made.
