Tampa police are investigating an apparent drowning involving a young child at the Clipper Bay Apartments.

The apartments are located at 6727 S. Lois Avenue.

Police responded to a 911 call regarding a missing 4 1/2-year-old child with autism.

When April Sikes had laid down for a nap, David Sikes was able to manipulate the door and leave the home.

Sikes called 911 after searching for David and not being able to find him.

Officers arrived and located David in a pond near the home at 2:59 p.m.

They were unable to revive the little boy.

“The family is obviously raising a child with a disability, but nobody wants to go through this.  It’s a horrible day for this family,” said Eddy Durkin with Tampa police.
