Three children and one adult were seriously injured when a dump truck rear-ended a car then slammed into an SUV head-on in Hillsborough County.
The crash happened on US-301 near Stacy Road just before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
FHP troopers say a dump truck driver was headed north and didn’t see stopped traffic in front of him.
The driver hit his brakes and steered to the left of the road. An FHP crash report says he then hit the back of a Kia Soul that was stopped behind traffic in the northbound lane, waiting for another car to turn left.
After hitting the Kia, troopers say the dump truck drove into the southbound lane and hit a Ford Explorer head-on.
The 40-year-old driver and the three children who were in the Ford were all taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries. A 6-year-old boy is in critical condition.
The dump truck driver was not hurt. The only person in the Kia Soul suffered minor injuries.
Troopers say charges are pending.
