HIGHLANDS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – Deputies said a person of interest in the murder of a 95-year-old man has been arrested on unrelated charges. Lace Melitta Heflin, 37, was taken into custody Wednesday.
Dominic Demundo was found dead in his home Monday. “A neighbor went to the gentleman’s house, heard the TV on, knocked on the door; nobody would come to it. He hadn’t been seen in a few days,” Chief Deputy Mark Schrader told News Channel 8.
Investigators established Heflin as a person of interest in Demundo’s homicide, according to the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office. On Wednesday investigators saw a vehicle they believed was connected to Heflin, and entered a financial institution, according to the sheriff’s office.
“The subject was discovered in possession of a concealed ladies’ wallet that did not belong to her. A search subsequent to this arrest resulted in additional charges of possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia,” a sheriff’s office spokesperson said.
The homicide investigation is ongoing.
Investigators are still asking anyone who worked for or had come into contact with Demundo to come forward. Call 863-402-7250 to talk with Detective Jody Stowers.
