OLDSMAR, Fla. (WFLA) Good Samaritans rushed to rescue an elderly woman after her car caught on fire Sunday.
The Cabrals were heading to Disney World when they captured the car fire on video.
“Basically I said 911, here,” said Michael Cabral.
They were behind the vehicle on Curlew Road, when they saw the smoke.
“See this car engulfed in smoke and as I got closer, flames were shooting out the hood,” said Cabral.
As he got closer, he saw a woman inside.
“I pulled up behind the car, just to make sure the person was getting out okay and it ended up being an older lady,” he said.
Cabral, a mechanic, knew he had little time to waste.
“I was gonna try and pop the hood, but when I saw the flames rolling out from underneath the hood, I was like no way. Let’s get her out,” he said.
He and several others jumped into action to save the 83-year-old woman.
“[I] assisted her to get out of the car and then walked her to the grass, she was like ‘I need my keys and my purse you know things inside,'” Cabral said.
By the time they made it to the grass, the car was completely on fire.
Another good Samaritan offered to let the woman sit in her car. She also shot more cell phone video of the car on fire. She took her home afterwards.
Oldsmar Fire Rescue put the fire out. Nothing but an empty shell remained.
Cabral said he was at the right place at the right time.
The woman, who lives at a nearby nursing home, is said to be doing fine.
Her car is a total loss.
