Gene in Cuba: News Channel 8 anchor reports from Cuba

Did you know only one Cuban film has ever been nominated for an Oscar?

WFLA News Channel 8 anchor Gene Ramirez is in Cuba right now and is filing reports each day about life in Cuba.

He visited the La Guardia, the first Cuban paladar. A paladar is a family-run restaurant (as opposed to a state-run restaurant). The ?paladar? was featured in ?the movie FresaYChocolate, which was the first and only Cuban film nominated for an Oscar.

As Gene’s photo shows, workers hang tablecloths to dry on the lines in the paladar. He says the food is incredibly delicious and the restaurant has hosted the Queen of Spain.

Be sure to tune in to WFLA News Channel 8 this week between 4:30 and 7 a.m. and at 11 p.m. to see what else Gene discovered in Cuba.
