Sheriff: Man chews up seat of police car after cocaine arrest

KEY WEST, Fla. (WCMH) – A Florida man is accused of chewing and swallowing pieces of a patrol car seat Thursday during a cocaine possession arrest.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Melvin Stubbs, 27, was pulled over for having window tint that was too dark. During the stop, deputies realized Stubbs had a probation violation warrant from a previous drug conviction.

The sheriff’s office said Stubbs tried to run away, but was taken to the ground by deputies. They said he continued to fight, and got up to run again, but was shocked with a Taser.

A search of his jacket revealed four baggies of cocaine totaling 41.1 grams, the sheriff’s office said.

While in the back of the patrol car, Stubbs allegedly started kicking the side of the door. Deputies also noticed a large piece of the back seat had been chewed off and/or eaten.

Deputies said Stubbs was taken to jail after being checked out at an area hospital.
