Ocala man pleads guilty following accidental self shooting

OCALA, Fla. (WFLA) – A man who shot himself in the leg on accident while drinking in his car has pleaded guilty.

Michael Guell, 37, has pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.

Guell was admitted to an Ocala-area hospital for gunshot wounds. When police arrived at the hospital, Guell told them that he had been shot during a robbery but later admitted that he had been drinking in his car and had accidentally shot himself.

A search of Guell’s vehicle revealed a semi-automatic handgun, 26 rounds of ammunition, and multiple shell casings.  

A sentencing date has not yet been set.
