Gun advocates in Florida rallied at a fishing pier on Saturday to highlight the importance of the state’s open carry laws.

Back in June, six members of the group “Florida Carry” caused a bit of a disturbance when they showed up at the fishing pier in Miami.

At the time, some of the fishermen and tourists were startled and contacted police. Officers responded to temporarily detain and disarm the group but eventually found they were within their rights to carry their weapons.

This weekend, the group announced on Facebook they were planning to visit the pier again.

Police were ready for this visit and helped accommodate the group of open carry advocates as they walked to the pier and fished.

“This is our statement to come out here and try and educate not only the law enforcement officers, but the general public as well,” Steven Merrette said. “We are not the problem. We’re out here peacefully fishing, we’ve got our wives, our kids with us, we’re out here having a good time, nobody’s causing any problems.”
