ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH) - A 69-year-old grandmother who was arrested at Disney for having CBD oil in her purse plans to file a lawsuit against the theme park and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Hester Burkhalter, of North Carolina, was arrested April 15 for having oil that was labeled “Select CBD” in her purse.
Burkhalter said the oil she had did not contain THC and said she was made to feel like a criminal.
The lawsuit will allege Burkhalter endured "illegal detention, false arrest and a violation of her civil rights when she tried to enter Disney World with her family carrying a small bottle of CBD oil in her purse recommended by her doctor for chronic arthritis pain.”
Burkhalter is represented by civil rights and personal injury lawyer Ben Crump and co-counsel Michele Rayner.
Crump was the attorney for Trayvon Martin's family.
