MIAMI (WFLA) — Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday that the state of Florida would be providing $100 million for cancer research after he signs the state budget into law.
DeSantis said the funding would help support the work of Florida’s cancer research centers, including Don Soffer Clinical Research Center in Miami and the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.
The governor thanked the legislature for approving his proposed increase in funding, which he said estimated to a 60 percent increase.
“We really have confidence in these institutes to put this money to good use,” he said.
First Lady Casey DeSantis, who recently survived breast cancer, praised her husband for proposing the increase in funding and the Legislature for their leadership.
“Florida’s gonna lead the way to find a definitive cure once and for all for all types of cancer,” she said.
