Florida mom turning bullets into jewelry to combat gun violence

Florida

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) – A Florida mother is taking a very hands-on approach to help end gun violence.

Susan Kennedy takes bullets and turns them into jewelry. The mother of three says it’s an idea that came from above.

“In 2016 when a 6-year-old boy was killed. His name was King Carter,” Kennedy recalled. “God moved me. It was a mission that was given to me. I am tired of seeing our kids dying.”

After that, Kennedy started going around high-crime neighborhoods to ask for bullets. She would then turn them into jewelry.

“We’re losing our kids one bullet at a time. I’m going to start taking bullets off the streets,” she said. “Instead of guns – they always want guns off the streets – but taking a bullet from someone creates a conversation.”

Kennedy is the founder of Bullets4Life. Since she began her mission, she has collected more than 5,000 bullets.

On Thursday, she attended a Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America event to spread the word about her movement.

“It’s a scary feeling to be a mom, knowing that I don’t know if my child is going to come home,” she said.

The event Thursday was held in Riviera Beach, but similar events were held around the nation. Supporters are advocating for safer gun laws.

“I hope that we can change the mindset. I hope they would put the guns down,” Kennedy said. “I hope that we stop killing each other, because we are dying out here.”
