COCOA, Fla. (WESH) – A Florida man is under arrest after strangling a man that he allegedly told authorities he had been watching him for six weeks.

Authorities were called to the area of Batavia and Kings Highway in Cocoa on Monday for a battery. When they arrived, officials say a jogger had detained a man who had tried to strangle him with a belt.

According to authorities, the man, later identified as 18-year-old Logan William Smith, laid a bedsheet outside his home and between two cars, then hid behind a light pole.

Smith is accused of putting a mallet and Axe aerosol spray next to him on the ground, while he waited for the victim. He allegedly told investigators the mallet was to hit the victim, while the Axe spray would have been used to blind him.

He continued to tell deputies that he was going to use the bedsheet to drag the victim into his home where he would put him in his closet so he could have “the body all to himself” to fulfill sexual fantasies, according to the arrest report.

When the victim ran by, authorities say Smith tossed the belt over the victim’s head and pulled it tight for “several seconds which caused visible physical injury.”

The victim however was able to free himself and told deputies he had never seen or spoken to Smith and typically runs around four times a week.

The deputy report said the victim told them he was “jogging with his earphones in listening to music” when he realized he was being choked “out of nowhere.”

The victim later stated he used his martial arts training when he realized what was happening to him.

After being taken into custody, Smith told deputies he made the decision to kill the victim after watching a movie that had violent acts of murder.

Deputies say Smith told them he got unlucky because the victim was stronger than he was. Smith has been charged with attempted murder.
