MIAMI (WFLA/WTVJ) – Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood had an unexpected visitor Friday night.
An alligator ranging between 10-12 feet long was spotted in the middle of a road by a Miami Fire Rescue crew as they were headed back to their station.
The crew, who initially believed the gator to be an unconscious person, was able to keep people and vehicles away from the animal as it attempted to cross the road.
Miami fire and police contained the gator in a residential backyard until a trapper could be dispatched by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The trapper had to put down the alligator due to safety reasons, according to a statement.
