DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WESH) — A Daytona Beach driver is accused of intentionally hitting a man with a car this week.
Daytona Beach police said Anthony Adum was driving his car near the intersection of International Speedway Boulevard and North Nova Road on March 21 when he hit Christopher Watson.
Investigators said Adum hit Watson while he was on the sidewalk, near the intersection, causing him serious injuries that later led to his death.
In the investigation, police determined Adum intentionally crashed into Watson.
Adum is from Texas and police said he came to the area for bike week and stayed. According to the arrest report, witnesses in the car with the suspect before the crash watched him drive over medians and drive through red lights.
The victim was sitting on the sidewalk in front of a large powerbox that was also knocked over.
One witness told police that Adum was looking straight ahead, toward the victim and smashed the gas.
There’s no connection, there’s no connection between the victim or the suspect.
Police don’t know why Adum would have allegedly targeted the victim, but they say a rambling Facebook Live video he made hours before the fatal crash is part of the investigation. In the video police said Adum made disparaging remarks about the area.
Adum is charged with first-degree murder.
