Miramar police are investigating after a baby was mauled to death by a pit bull Wednesday morning, WTVJ reports.
According to officials, 8-month-old Liana Valino was being cared for by a female relative when she was attacked by a male pit bull at a home in the 2400 block of Kingston Drive.
Police said the child was seated in a bouncy chair when she was attacked.
“At this point it’s an active investigation. It’s unknown what the outcome will be of that investigation but we have detectives on scene,” Miramar Police Officer Yessenia Diaz said.
The dog in question is now in the custody of Broward County Animal Services. Two other dogs at the home were not involved in the attack.
“I’m numb right now, I don’t feel,” the child’s mother Brenda Villasin told WTVJ. “I can’t express myself correctly.”
“She was the best thing to ever happen to me. She smiled every morning. She was my world,” Villasin said.
