FHP arrests driver of Mercedes accused of killing bicyclist in hit-and-run

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla (WFLA) – Authorities have arrested a man who they say hit and killed a bicyclist on an Interstate-4 exit ramp Wednesday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators say the crash happened at 3:40 a.m. at the eastbound exit ramp to U.S. 301.

They say Christopher Cole, 44, of Tampa was driving a silver, Mercedes C 300 on the exit ramp and hit a 45-year-old Brandon man who was riding a bicycle. Cole then drove away.

The bicyclist, who has not been identified, was ejected and died at the scene. The bicycle wound up on the shoulder of the road.

The bicyclist has been identified as Aristeo Pascual, 45, of Brandon.

Investigators found debris and vehicle parts indicating the car involved in the hit-and-run crash was a silver Mercedes C 300.

The Tampa Police Department received a tip that the Mercedes was located at 2202 East 20th Ave. in Tampa. A short time later, Cole surrendered at FHP headquarters. He was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
