Driver sought in fatal hit & run


PINELLAS PARK, FL (WFLA) – Police are searching for the driver of an SUV who hit a pedestrian and never stopped to help.

Andrew Mitchell, 28, was trying to cross 66th Street around 10 p.m. Sunday when he was hit by a Pontiac Sunfire.

The driver of that vehicle, Kevin Carothers, 57, stopped. He was on his way to work when the incident happened. He was cooperating with the authorities.

But, moments after the initial crash police tell News Channel 8 a black SUV ran over the man. That driver of the SUV continued down the road without stopping, police said.

Mitchell was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

Pinellas Park Police are asking anyone with any information about this crash to contact law enforcement.
