2 teens arrested in Polk after Orange County homicide

LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) – Polk County deputies have arrested two teens suspected of murdering a woman in a gas station parking lot in Orange County last Wednesday evening.

The two suspects, Jayvon Joachin, 16, and Deshawn Miller, 17, both from Orlando have been arrested and charged with homicide, grand theft of a motor vehicle, felony possession of a handgun and burglary, among several other charges.

Authorities say the two teens are suspected of shooting a woman, Kendra Lewis, 27, in the head in the parking lot of a Citgo gas station on North Pine Hills Road in Orange County. The woman’s daughter, 5, was in the back seat at the time of the shooting but was not injured.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said deputies received reports of a stolen vehicle in Winter Haven Saturday evening, a separate incident from the shooting. Deputies were able to determine that the driver and passenger were the same suspects.

When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver gave a brief chase before crashing into a ditch near CR 557.

Both suspects were injured in the crash and were treated and released from Heart of Florida Hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Deputies say they found a gun in the vehicle, which was reported stolen from Tampa Arms Company Gun Shop on November 29. The driver was also found to be in possession of three Swiss-Tech window punches, devices used for breaking car windows.

The teens are expected to have a first appearance Monday morning.
