The Tampa Organization of Black Affairs TOBA is hosting its 39th Annual Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr. Leadership Breakfast Monday, January 21, 2019 at 6:45 a.m. at the Hilton Hotel
Downtown Tampa.
This year’s keynote address will be given by Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D., the 10th President of
Spelman College. Prior to her appointment at Spelman, Dr. Campbell served as New York City’s
cultural affairs commissioner under two mayors and was responsible for the city’s cultural policy, as
well as the capital and operational development of major cultural institutions. In 2009, Dr. Campbell
was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as the Vice Chair of the President’s Committee on
the Arts and the Humanities, a non-partisan advisory committee to the President of the United States
on cultural matters.
