Boston PD mourns passing of active duty officer from COVID-19

BOSTON (AP) — A Boston police officer has died from complications of the coronavirus, officials said Tuesday.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh identified the officer Tuesday as Jose Fontanez, 53, a 29-year member of the force.

Sixty-seven members of the Boston Police Department have tested positive for the disease, according to Police Commissioner William Gross. Fifty-three have yet to return to work.
