Ed Bloodsworth

I joined Storm Team 8 in July of 2016 as a weekend meteorologist and weather producer. Be sure to catch me on News Channel 8 Saturday and Sunday mornings starting at 6 am.

I grew up in the Tampa Bay area, in the East Lake/Orient Park area of Hillsborough County.

My fascination with weather began at age seven during an afternoon game of Little League baseball in Palm River. Storm clouds rolled over the field and I watched from the dugout as a tornado formed, touching down about two miles from the field. I was instantly hooked. I spent my days watching The Weather Channel and spent my summers tracking hurricanes along with my favorite Channel 8 meteorologists, including the late and great John Winter.

I found a love for the arts and attended the arts magnet program at Howard W. Blake High School. Go Yellow Jackets!!! French horn became my main focus during my time at Blake High, but my love for performing expanded outside of school. I was involved with numerous community theater organizations, including Tampa’s Spanish Lyric Theater and Opera Tampa. If you ask me to sing today, I’d tell you to cover your ears. Despite my heavy interest and involvement in the local arts community, I always came back to weather.

I graduated from Florida State University with a BS in Applied Meteorology and associated minor in Mathematics. You will find me rooting on my Seminoles every chance I get. While at FSU, I worked as a meteorologist/forecast for WTXL in Tallahassee, FL. I am an active member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the National Weather Association (NWA). I hold the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) Designation from the AMS.

Before coming home to the Tampa Bay area, I worked at our sister station WJBF in Augusta, GA where I was the meteorologist for the morning and midday shows. While in Augusta, I covered the 2014 ice storm, one of the costliest natural disasters on record in Georgia & South Carolina. Before that, I worked at KTKA in Topeka, KS. While in the Sunflower State, I covered a wide range of weather phenomenon including heat waves, blizzards, and tornado outbreaks. I was in charge of storm chasing operations for KTKA, which involved organizing chase teams and chasing myself in a specially outfitted H2 Hummer.

When not forecasting for Tampa Bay, you will find me rooting for the Bucs, Rays, Lightning, and Rowdies, either at the games, or at home. You may run into me hitting up the local bowling alleys where I coach youth bowlers. I am a fan of hiking, amateur nature photography, personal fitness, cooking, and beach days. It is an absolute dream to be a member of this team and working for the television station I grew up watching.
