The following Tampa Bay area restaurants received the most violations during inspections conducted January 20 to January 25.

NO 1 China Buffet at 8857 N. Florida Ave. #6-152 Northgate in Tampa, 25 violations

  • An employee handled soiled utensils and then engaged in food preparation without washing their hands.
  • Potentially hazardous cold food was held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. This included: raw shrimp 49°F, raw beef 51°F, raw chicken 51°F and egg rolls 45°F.
  • Raw shrimp and raw chicken were stored over ready-to-eat sauces in the reach in cooler.


Steak & Shake #462 at 17509 N. Palm Village Pl. in TAMPA, 23 violations

  • Potentially hazardous cold food was held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. This included butter on the prep line at 81°F.
  • An accumulation of limescale was found on the inside and along edges of the dishwashing machine.
  • A pan of sugar was stored in the dry storage area and was not covered.


Babalu Restaurant & Full Bar at 9246 4TH St. N. in St. Petersburg, 26 violations

  • Dead roaches were found on the premises. Two dead roaches were found on the floor under the steam table and one on the floor under the prep table in the kitchen.
  • Raw bacon was stored above unwashed celery in the walk-in cooler.
  • Roach activity was present as evidenced by live roaches found. Two live roaches were found on a sticky trap by the reach in cooler, four were found on the wheels of the reach in cooler, two on debris behind the kitchen, one on the wheel of the reach in cooler on the cook line and three on floor under the reach in cooler on the cook line.


Wok N Roll Chinese Restaurant at 881 W. Bay Dr. Unit #3 in Largo, 23 violations

  • Beef and chicken was stored over ready-to-eat rice noodles in the reach in cooler on the cook-line.
  • The cook took customers money and then handled broccoli without washing their hands.
  • Potentially hazardous cold food was held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. This included: dumplings 44°F, ribs 48°F, egg roll 45°F and bean sprouts 66°F.


Mangia Bene Pizzeria at 1811B N 15TH St. in Tampa, 26 violations

  • Roach activity was present as evidenced by live roaches found. Two live roaches were found upstairs in the second level storage area.
  • Potentially hazardous cold food was held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. This included: sliced tomatoes 48°F, cheese 48°F, heavy cream 55°F, linguine 53°F, penne 52°F, pizza sauce 53°F, chicken breast 57°F, breaded chicken filet 55°F, raw chicken 45°F, and cheese 47°F.
  • A rodent burrow and rodent nesting materials present.


The Hangar at 540 1ST Street SE in St. Petersburg, 27 violations

  • A Stop Sale was issued on potentially hazardous food due to temperature abuse.
  • An employee cracked raw shell eggs and then handled ready-to-eat food without washing their hands.
  • Potentially hazardous hot food was held at less than 135 degrees Fahrenheit or above. This included sausage gravy at 108°F and clarified butter at 80°F.


Strokers at 30901 US HWY 19 N. in Palm Harbor, 30 violations

  • Potentially hazardous cold food was held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • The wall was soiled with an accumulation of black debris in the dishwashing area.
  • There was a hole in the wall next to the two chest freezer.


Carinos Italian Restaurant at 9524 Blind Pass Rd. #6-9 in St. Petersburg, 26 violations

  • Raw lamb was stored over prosciutto in reach in freezer, also raw and ready to eat items were mixed together like raw beef with cooked muscles and smoked trout in the freezer.
  • A stop sale was issued on food that was not wholesome. Whole tomatoes and stuffed Portabella caps were covered in mold.
  • Commercially processed ready-to-eat food was opened and held for more than 24 hours and not properly date marked after opening. This included cream, cheese and milk.
