1.5 million bicycles recalled from 13 manufacturers

WFLA Web Staff - (NBC) -- A crash hazard has prompted the recall of more than 1.5 million bicycles with front disc brakes and quick-release levers, which attaches the wheel to the bicycles.

The recall involves 13 manufacturers and distributors and covers 17 different brands, including Diamondback, Cannondale, and Jamis. A list of all brands covered in the recall and a video showing how to determine if your bike is included is available at

An open quick-release lever on the bike's front wheel hub can come into contact with the front disc brake rotor, causing the front wheel to come to a sudden stop or separate from the bike, causing the rider to crash. There have been three incidents reported, including one with injuries.

Bicycle stores nationwide sold the bikes from 1998 through 2015. Consumers can get free installation of a new, quick-release.

About 1.3 million of the recalled bikes were sold in the U.S. About 245,000 were sold in Canada and about 9,000 were sold in Mexico.
