TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

The family of an 11 year-old girl is in shock after the child was hit and killed at 15th and Osborne.

TPD says they have a suspected driver in custody after he left the scene.

The accident happened just after 9:30 Friday evening. According to Tampa Police spokesperson Andrea Davis, the girl was riding her bike when she was hit. The girl was apparently hit and then dragged down the street several blocks.

The child was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where she died. The driver left the scene. Davis said it was clear that the driver knew he hit the child.

TPD officers were looking for a white panel van, 80’s-90’s model. It was not clear if there were any witnesses to the hit and run.

Officers said they were able to find some grainy surveillance video. They are working to release the video in the next several hours. Officers are now questioning the driver they have detained.
