PINELLAS COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

A mother and daughter are accused of running a scheme to smuggle prescription drugs into the Pinellas County Jail.

A tip from an inmate led investigators to Janelle Albertson who was already in jail.

Deputies believe she teamed up with her mom, Mary Ann Albertson, in a plot to hide drugs inside a public restroom at the jail.

Major Tim Slaughter, who is in charge of the facility, said after 26 years at the jail, nothing surprises him. He said pills are especially hard to control, because they are so small.

“You have to listen to people and you have to interact with the inmates. You have to have good deputies on the floor and you have to have a good investigative team, which we have. That's how you help stop this” he said.

Investigators believe Janelle Albertson traded some of the pills for commissary items, including a pair of Nike shoes.
