Back-to-School Tax-free Holiday is here

Posted: Updated:
CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) -

It's almost time to head back to school and that means it's time to shop.

The state's annual tax-free holiday started early Friday morning and ends late Sunday night. The state claims the annual back to school tax break has saved Floridians more than $400 million since it started in 1998.

They estimate shoppers will save about $40 million during this year's 72-hour window.

Here's what's included this year:

- Any article of clothing priced $100 or less

- Any pair of shoes priced $100 or less

- School supplies, like pens and notepads, priced $15 or less

- Computers and computer-related accessories are tax free on the first $750 of the purchase price

Many stores are offering additional sales on tax free items. At the Best Buy in Clearwater, the manager will have extra staff on hand to handle the anticipated crowds.

"Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this weekend is really is treated as three Black Fridays per say," said Best Buy Manager Thomas Gray.
