CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) -

Gov. Rick Scott appeared at an event in Clearwater announcing an expansion expected to create 250 jobs.

GE Energy Management is building a new 190,000-square-foot manufacturing center, a $50 million investment scheduled to be completed by fourth quarter 2015.

Gov. Scott often attends events connected to job creation, an issue he has made central to his administration and his re-election campaign. According to his office, 117,900 private sector jobs have been added this year.

The GE announcement comes as Pinellas County is losing more than 200 jobs with the anticipated closure of an ice cream factory. The Unilever factory, which makes products under brands including Good Humor and Klondike, is about 10 miles away and is expected to close this fall. About 210 workers wil lose their jobs there.

The head of Economic Development in Pinellas County said his office is working to recruit another company to use that facility, and hopefully hire some of the workers.
