Tampa Bay business gives hope to jobless vets

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - High unemployment is still haunting our military veterans, far higher than the national average for the civilian population.

There is a new business model designed to transition our veterans back into the workforce.

Vetcor Water Mitigation Services is veteran owned and operated business now servicing Tampa Bay.

"95 percent of the calls we get are something man-made, your water heater breaks your dishwasher break and you have a water loss," said Vetcor president Paul Huszar.

The hope is to launch the Vetcor business model nationwide to put veterans back to work, but a Vetcor company wouldn't necessarily have to revolve around water mitigation.

"You know a guy who's great plumber, carpenter, electrician, vacuum cleaner repairman, whatever, and he can open a franchise in his hometown." said Huszar.

For veterans it feels good to work with others who have served in the military, and understand how difficult it can be to transition back into civilian life.

"I was medically retired I was in the army, and they're like we don't need you anymore, your broken, we can't use you. So I was like what do I do now?" said Michael Young, a Vetcor employee.

Now highly trained and qualified retired military members like Young have a place to work.

Young hopes the trend to hire veterans grows.

"We have so much to offer, we are disciplined, we are trained to be able to pick up anything and do that task efficiently," said Young.

If you would like to contact Vetcor for guidance on how to tap into Veteran Affairs resources that are available to put our vets back to work, Huszar says he's willing to help others figure out the military red tape.

"I want to help other small businesses get started, show them resources they can use to get veterans trained an on the job force, it's something I'm very passionate about," said Huszar.
