SPRING HILL, FL (WFLA) -

Hernando County engineers and contractors will return to a Spring Hill sinkhole Tuesday with specialized geotechnical equipment to investigate what's happening underground.

Crews spent Monday clearing away crushed concrete that started slipping down the hole when it opened Saturday. They also pumped cement into the sinkhole to "cap it", according to Hernando County Public Information Manager Virginia Singer. A geotechnical consultant will be on site Tuesday.

At last check, the depression on Elderidge Rd. measured 40 yards across and 30 feet deep and did not appear to be growing.

The county's building official declared the house closest to the sinkhole unsafe. Friends and family members spent Monday helping homeowner Linda Fisher move out in a hurry.

The damage may be covered by insurance, according to her realtor.
