Two Lakeland men arrested for shooting into occupied house

LAKELAND, FL (WFLA) -

Two Lakeland men were charged with shooting into a house, hitting a man in the feet, Lakeland police said.

Mario Fernando Garrett Jr. 18, of 510 Longfellow Blvd., Lakeland, was charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling, resisting arrest without violence and violation of probation.

Antonio Maurice Pouncey, 21, of 1350 Lake Bonny Drive W., No. 24, Lakeland, was charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Lakeland police said the two men asked a third man to drive them to a house on Golconda Road in Lakeland. The motorist was unaware of their intentions and complied with the request.

The men exited the car on Golconda Road. The driver told authorities he then heard shots fired and saw the two men running back to the house holding guns.

They got back into the car and told the motorist to drive away. The driver asked the two men to get out, but they refused.

A patrol officer spotted a white vehicle matching the description of a car seen in the area during the shooting. He pulled over the vehicle occupied by four people for a traffic stop after back up arrived.

A passenger in the backseat, who was later identified as Garrett, fled on foot, but was arrested after a short foot chase. A .380 caliber handgun was found nearby.

The other three men were questioned. Pouncey, another passenger in the backseat, was also arrested in the connection with the shooting.

The driver and front seat passenger were not arrested Saturday.

The shooting victim, Leith Watkins, 50, was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening gunshot wounds.
