BEVERLY HILLS, FL (WFLA) - Rose Leone tells Eight On Your Side that her heart sank after her once in a lifetime trip was instantly canceled.

There are beautiful pictures from Barcelona of all of Leone’s siblings, who were all born in Italy. And with one sibling’s cancer in remission and another one just retiring, it was a once in a lifetime trip to get everyone together.

“When we all got to the airport, they told me that my passport was not valid and that I couldn't go with my family. I was devastated.  They wanted the expiration date to be at least three months after I came back. My expiration date was up to July 22, which is still valid because we were coming back June 9,” said Leone.

It’s a lesser known rule that is mentioned on the State Department’s website,

After some digging, Eight On Your Side found the state department’s website explains some countries require your passport to be valid six months beyond your planned returned date.

“The money is not even the important thing. It's that I missed out my family together. It was an opportunity of a lifetime to be with the family,” said Leone.

Rose wants everyone to take the state departments advice and renew your passport nine months before it expires.
