WILSON'S MILLS, N.C. -

Police say a 13-year-old boy from Apex died Monday after being involved in a crash earlier this month in Wilson's Mills.

Wilson's Mills Police said Julla Panneh, 38, of Raleigh, failed to reduce speed on July 5 and collided with a car that was stopped at a red light at the intersection of US 70 Highway and Swift Creek Road. Police estimate Panneh was traveling between 55 and 60 miles per hour at the time of impact.

Three people were sent to WakeMed, two of whom were in critical condition. The teen, who suffered head trauma in the crash, died Monday.

Police believe Panneh may have been distracted at the time of the collision, although officers determined that she was not texting while driving. Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash, police said.

"This crash has not only taken the life a beloved teenage son, but will affect the lives of everyone involved the rest of their life," said Wilson's Mills Police Chief David Hess. "No amount of justice or 'I am sorry' will take away the pain from losing a child."

Panneh is in the Johnston County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond.
