TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - The USF Sundome is a great place to catch a concert.

And now there's a national designation that seem to agree.

For the second year in a row, the USF Sundome has been named by Venues Today Magazine as the second best venue of its size in the state of Florida. Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena was first this year and last.

Trent Merritt is the General Manager of the Sundome.

He's excited about the a recognition.

"Certainly a team effort just like any significant accomplishment," Merritt said.

The  has been around awhile.

"The original Sundome was built in 1980 and for years and years was the biggest play in town and really in Central Florida," said Merritt.

But he adds, competition and time required some changes and two years ago the facility underwent a major renovation  to the tune of about $36 million.

It's basically a new facility.

"We've got a great partnership with the university and the athletic department and both of those entities support us in our goal to be aggressive and bring great shows here."

And it's something he certainly hopes will continue to grow.
