Record-shattering snapper caught in Gulf

Some records are broken. Others are completely and utterly shattered.

The latter can be said for Alabama's cubera snapper record after a man caught a massive lunker in the Gulf of Mexico off the shores of Alabama on Tuesday.

The snapper unofficially weighed in at 84 lbs., 9 oz., exceeding the current record for a Cubera Snapper of 52 lbs, 0 oz. caught on May 20, 1988.

The snapper is pending approval from the Alabama Marine Resources Division to officially break the state record.

Fork Length (tip of snout to fork in tail): 1,260 mm (~49.6 inches)
Girth (measured at the widest point of the body): 1,026 mm (~40.3 inches)
