TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Consumers flock to travel rewards credit cards but they are not all created equal.

Credit.com is out with its new 2014 list of the best travel reward credit cards. These are not cards that offer points and miles with airline and hotel programs, but cards that offer rewards points issued by the banks that can be used for nearly any travel reservation.

The Barclay card arrival plus is at the top of the list for the second year in a row. Gerri Detweiler of Credit.com says, "Right off the bat, when you sign up, you're going to get 40,000 miles and that alone is a great travel perk."

You do have to spend $3,000 on the card within the first ninety days to be eligible for that giant mileage bonus. But Detweiler says there are other valuable perks too. "You are also going to earn double miles for each dollar you spend and if you redeem them for travel, you are essentially getting 2.2% back on all your purchases."

The Barclay card carries an $89 annual fee but it is waived for the first year.

The Capital One Venture Rewards Visa Signature Card came in as the first runner up this year. It also comes with 40,000 bonus miles if you spend $3,000 in the first three months. You will also earn double miles with each purchase.

Detweiler adds "you can use these miles for any kind of travel. It doesn't have to be with a particular airline or hotel so that makes these cards very flexible and attractive to people who aren't loyal to a particular airlines."

The Capital One Ventures Rewards card carries a $59 annual fee which is also waived for the first year.

Finally, the second runner up: the Bank Americard Travel Rewards Card. According to Detweiler "this card is especially good for people who have a Bank of America checking or savings account because you are going to get extra bonus points for having that."

With the Bank Americard, you only have to spend $500 in the first few months to get a 10,000 mile bonus and there is no annual fee.
