RALEIGH, N.C. -

A Cary man's $10 lottery ticket purchase from a local Food Lion turned in to a huge check from the North Carolina Education Lottery.

Ronnie Versteeg won $750,000 playing the instant scratch-off game Jumbo Bucks. He scratched off the lucky ticket in his home after purchasing it from the Food Lion on Northeast Maynard Road in Cary.

Versteeg collected his winnings Monday morning, saying, "It was a life-changing moment."

After state and federal taxes were withheld, Versteeg walked away with a check for $519,003. "It enables our family to not worry so much about the future. I am extremely grateful for the security it provides for us," Versteeg said.

Versteeg says he also plans to take a beach trip and invest in his retirement with the money.
