Details released for Fort Bragg's July Fourth celebration

Posted: Updated:

Fort Bragg's traditional Independence Day celebration will return to the Army post on Friday with music, food and fireworks.

The celebration was canceled last year because of federal budget cuts.

More than 60,000 people are expected, according to Fort Bragg's public affairs office. The biggest draw will likely be country music star Josh Turner and rock band 38 Special. The bands take to the stage at 5 and 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

"We are thrilled to be able to host our surrounding communities for our 4th of July celebration," said Col. Jeff Sanborn, Fort Bragg's garrison commander. "The City of Fayetteville and the Village of Pinehurst had terrific events last year in our absence, but we take great pride in giving our military families and our supportive surrounding communities a spectacular show on such a patriotic day. This one will be very special."

Fireworks and the firing of 110 howitzer rounds will close out the day of celebration.

Prilosec OTC is sponsoring this year’s event. Part of that sponsorship includes the donation of thousands of barbecue meals and backyard entertainment activities.

"After learning that Fort Bragg's annual Independence Day event was canceled last year, we felt that this was a perfect opportunity for Prilosec OTC, a brand who is on a mission to help American's enjoy the best of summer, to step in and lend a helping hand so that the deserving community of Central North Carolina could get back to celebrating," said Michelle Vaeth, Prilosec OTC spokesperson.

The Main Post Parade Field will open to the public at noon on Friday. Visitors to Fort Bragg will be able to enter the installation through the All American Access Control Point and will require valid government-issued identification and submit vehicles for random inspection by security forces.

Folding chairs and blankets to sit on are welcome, but personal tents, sun shelters and umbrellas are prohibited from the Main Post Parade Field. Fort Bragg’s Outdoor Recreation on Knox Street is available for tent rentals. Tent reservations can be made by calling (910) 396-7060 or visiting

All bags and coolers will be inspected at the four pedestrian entrance points to the parade field.
