Police say a 3-year-old was found near a bus stop in the 2900 block of Chapel Hill Road Sunday morning in Durham.
The child was located at the bus stop around 9:15 a.m. after the child apparently wandered off while being watched by a teen. It was not immediately known if the teen was a sibling of the child.
When officers arrived at the bus stop, police said they found a mail key in the child's pocket. It then took officers about 3 hours to find the apartment complex where the child lived.
Officers notified the parents their son had been located, however the parents said they were not aware he was missing until officer notified them. The child lives in Colonial Apartments, which is immediately behind the bus stop where the boy was located.
The incident is under investigation and Department of Social Services was contacted, which is standard procedure.
