ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Rocky Mount police arrested two 18-year-olds in connection with a drug deal turned deadly Thursday.

Officers with the Rocky Mount Police Department responded to an assault in progress call around 10:45 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Jackson Street.

Upon arrival, responding units found 17-year-old Jose Antonio Martinez dead from injuries sustained during the assault, police said.

Johnathan Lamont Hargrove, of Whitakers, was identified as a suspect in death Thursday, police said.

Hargrove and Kionte Marquis Ransome, 18, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in relation to the incident, authorities said Friday.

Both Hargrove and Ransome are being held in the Nash County Jail under no bond, police said.

Rocky Mount police said the assault was the result of a drug deal gone wrong.
