1 killed in small plane crash in Halifax County

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. -

One person was killed Friday morning after a small plane crashed near the Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration said that a Cessna 182 crashed in a field about five miles southwest of the airport. The Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Friday in a farm field off Andrew Hale Road in the Darlington Community.

The FAA said that the pilot reported engine problems before the crash.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp confirmed that the pilot was killed in the crash and that no one else was on board the plane.

The FAA is investigating the crash.
