RIVERVIEW, FL (WFLA) -

A Riverview girl who has a special place in her heart for animals is hoping her kind deed will inspire others to do the same.

Alexandria Nation recently celebrated her 11th birthday with a party. She asked her friends to not bring her any gifts. Instead, she wanted them to bring things that she could donate to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.

Alexandria's friends showered her with pet goodies, which she and her mother Lori and father Milt delivered to the shelter.

"It makes me feel happy because they're getting food," said Alexandria, who will be a 5th grader next fall at Riverview Elementary.

Alexandria donated about seven bags of food, along with pet treats and toys.

"It makes me kinda sad that they need homes, but happy that they'll get homes," she said of the animals at the shelter.

Alexandria's mother is proud of her daughter.

"It's awesome. When I see kids do cool things like this, it gives hope for future generations," said Lori Nation.

Alexandria, who wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up, would like to see more people donate.

"I hope other people will see this and do the same thing."
