KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) -

On Wednesday, organizers of a favorite summertime festival in the region announced some of the changes that will be seen at this year’s 2014 Fun Fest celebration.

In its 34th year, this year’s Fun Fest – scheduled for July 11-19 -- will still have the Taste of the Tri-Cities event, but it will now be called “Taste” and will include restaurants from Asheville, Knoxville and Nashville.  Fun Fest Chairman George DeCroes says, "we're going to be bringing in more than just restaurants and food from the TriCities. We're gonna be bringing in food from Asheville, Nashville, Knoxville as well as the TriCities so we're branching out geographically a little bit to offer the participants a little bit more options on what they may want to consume. "

This year’s festival theme is “Fun in the Sun and Under the Stars” and it came from a trash barrel painted for last year's Fun Fest by two children from Kingsport, who were honored at the press conference and given a gift basket full of goodies.  They will also get to ride in this year's Fun Fest Parade.

There will also be two additional video screens on either side of the stage for the concerts this year and DeCroes added, "There won't be a bad seat in the house. We've got Martina McBride on Friday night, Saturday we've got Train which is a huge group. They are coming out with a new c-d in Sept., they've just released a new single last week I guess that is out on the top 40 charts. And I don't want to slight Thursday night because we've got MercyMe who sold out a month or so ago at Niswonger in Greeneville. Ticket sales are really good for all 3 nights, we're about 35% ahead of sales for last year at this time,

Fun Fest gear can be found at the Fun Fest Store which will open Friday on Clinchfield Street at the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce building.

There is also a new Fun Fest app available at the app store for event updates and location changes if there is weather.
