SARASOTA COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

A Venice man is charged with a felony after he was caught on surveillance video snapping photos up a woman’s skirt.

According to Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Sunday afternoon Aaron Stahl, 35, approached a woman and her family at a Target.

Deputies say Stahl briefly spoke with the children and then a short time later, the 41-year-old mother noticed multiple flashes illuminating from the floor.

"She went to reach up on the shelves and look at merchandise and she sees these flashes," Sarasota County Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Wendy Rose described. "To think it can happen at a family friendly environment is just bizarre."

She turned around and saw Stahl crouched down behind her with a cell phone in his hand. The woman got into a brief struggle with Stahl and then he ran off.

A witness followed him and got the tag number from his car.

Detectives used surveillance video to help confirm the identity of the suspect. Stahl was later arrested at his home on Tuesday afternoon.  He is being charged with one felony count of Video Voyeurism and is being held without bond.

The unidentified woman is still shaken up after the incident, but deputies are thankful she tried to fight back, because it could've prevented other victims.

"There’s no way to stop someone who’s so intent on being sick. But again, fortunately she reacted, the witness reacted, and we were able to track him down," Rose said.

Officials say it's difficult to prevent such a crime as this, but the best thing to do is to simply be aware of your surroundings and of the people around you.

Stahl does not have a criminal history, but detectives have received information leading them to believe that he's done this before. They've filed a subpoena for his phone so they're going to go through it. If anyone has any information, they're asked to call the Sarasota County Sheriff's office.

Stahl is being held at $30,000 bond.
