RALEIGH, N.C. -

Soprano Sarah Brightman has been forced to cancel her upcoming performance at Red Hat Amphitheater after she broke her ankle.

Brightman, who is the first artist to have been invited twice to perform the theme songs at the Olympic Games, was scheduled to perform in downtown Raleigh on Aug. 16.

On Tuesday, however, Brightman said she would have to cancel he August tour dates while she recovers from a fractured ankle.

"I have suffered a hairline fracture to my ankle and have been advised by my doctors to rest it until September by which time it will have fully recovered," Bright said in an announcement on her website. "I have, regrettably, taken the decision to cancel my forthcoming U.S. dates in August."

Refunds for the Raleigh concert will be available at the point of purchase beginning Wednesday. Tickets purchased online or via phones will be automatically refunded.

Brightman sang "Amigos Para Siempre" with the Spanish tenor José Carreras during the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. In 2008, she performed the song "You and Me" with Chinese singer Liu Huan during the Beijing games.
